Terms of use

Last updated 2026-08-06

These terms govern your use of yodaka (“the app”), an iPhone application provided by KnotsLab LLC (“we”). By using the app you agree to them.

1. The texts

The works shown in the app come from data published by Aozora Bunko and Project Gutenberg. Their copyright has expired, or the rights holder has permitted free use.

Our thanks to the volunteers who typed and proofread them, and to the publishers whose editions they worked from. Each work lists its source edition and the people who prepared it.

Dictionary readings and glosses use JMdict and JMnedict (the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group), under the terms shown in the app’s attributions.

2. What you make

Markers, notes, and lists you create in the app belong to you. We cannot see them, and we neither use nor collect them.

3. What you may not do

4. yodaka Premium

The app is free to use, and every work can be read without paying. Premium adds further features; see Premium.

Purchase, payment, renewal, cancellation, and refunds all go through the App Store and are handled by Apple. We receive no payment details and are not in a position to decide refunds. Follow Apple’s process.

A subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancel in iOS Settings.

5. Interruption and change

We may suspend the app without prior notice for maintenance, faults, or other unavoidable reasons, and we may change, add to, or discontinue its features.

6. Disclaimer

We do not warrant that the content is accurate or complete. The texts are based on data from their sources and may contain errors introduced when they were typed or proofread.

Except in cases of our wilful misconduct or gross negligence, we are not liable for loss arising from use of the app.

Keeping your own data safe is your responsibility. iCloud sync exists to share between your devices; it is not a backup guarantee.

7. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms when necessary. Revised terms take effect when posted on this page.

8. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the law of Japan. Any dispute relating to the app is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction, in the first instance, of the court with jurisdiction over our registered head office.
