This policy covers how personal information is handled in yodaka (“the app”) and on this website (yodaka.app). KnotsLab LLC (“we”) provides both.
They differ. The app collects nothing that identifies you directly. The website counts how often each article is read. The website has its own section, “This website”, below.
What we do not collect
The app collects nothing that identifies you directly.
- There are no accounts. We never ask for your name, email address, or phone number
- The app contains no advertising trackers and nothing that links you across other services
- We do not ask for access to your location, contacts, photos, camera, or microphone
- We do not serve ads
What stays on your device
As you read, the app stores the following on your device.
- Passages, works, and writers you have liked
- Markers and notes
- Bookmarks (where you stopped)
- Reading records (time, characters, dates)
- Lists you made
- Display settings (typeface, theme, text size, and so on)
None of it is sent to our servers. Deleting the app deletes it from the device.
Usage measurement
To learn how many readers move from a passage to the work it came from, the app sends these signals — and only these — to a measurement service called TelemetryDeck. Turn off “Send anonymous statistics” in Settings and nothing further is sent.
- How many passages were shown in the feed (batched into one signal when the app goes to the background)
- That “Read this work” was tapped, and the work ID at that moment
- Reading time and character count when a work is finished
- That a work was opened from a list or from the passage of the day
- That the store was opened, progress through first-run setup, and a summary of display settings
The text of your notes and highlights, the words you look up, where you are reading, and which works you browse are never sent. There are no accounts, names, or email addresses to send.
An identifier travels with each signal so the same device is not counted twice. It isturned into an irreversible value on the device before it is sent, and TelemetryDeck transforms it again on their side. The original cannot be recovered. Data held by TelemetryDeck is governed bytheir privacy policy.
What goes to the cloud
Turn on sync and your markers, notes, likes, bookmarks, reading records, lists, and book colours are stored in your own cloud, shared between devices signed in to the same account. Where they are stored depends on the device.
iPhone and Android do not sync with each other, because the destinations differ.
iPhone and iPad (iCloud)
Your data is stored through Apple’s CloudKit in your own iCloud private database.
That is your iCloud, not our server, and we cannot read it. Apple’s privacy policy governs data held in iCloud.
Turn sync off and no further changes are sent. To remove what is already there, delete the app’s iCloud data in iOS Settings.
To receive sync changes, the app registers for remote notifications. These are the silent notifications CloudKit uses: nothing is displayed, and you are never asked for notification permission.
Android (Google Drive)
Your data is stored in an app data folder on Google Drive. Only this app can see what it puts there: the folder does not appear in your Drive file list, and no other app can read it. Removing the app removes it too.
Turning sync on asks you to choose a Google Account and grant permission. The permission covers reading, creating, and deleting files in that app data folder only, andnever touches your other files.
That is your Google Drive, not our server, and we cannot read it. Google’sprivacy policy governs data held in Drive.
Turning sync off revokes that permission. To remove what is already there, open Drive settings, go to “Manage apps”, and delete the app’s hidden app data.
When the app connects
The app makes network requests in these cases.
- Fetching texts, indexes, writer information, and dictionaries from our delivery server (
content.yodaka.app) - Downloading a font (retrieved from Apple’s or Google’s servers)
- Buying or restoring a purchase through the App Store or Google Play (handled by Apple or Google)
- Syncing, while sync is on (with iCloud or Google Drive)
- Sending usage signals (can be turned off in Settings)
None of these send anything that identifies you. Our delivery server keeps access logs — source IP address, timestamp, and the file requested — as any web server does. We keep them to run the service reliably and to prevent abuse, and we do not use them to identify individuals.
Purchases
yodaka Premium is bought and restored through the App Store or Google Play, and Apple or Google handles it. We never receive card numbers or other payment details. To check whether you own it, the app reads a purchase record signed by Apple or Google, on the device.

Links to sources (Aozora Bunko, Project Gutenberg), dictionary attributions, and our own contact page take you to other sites. What happens there is governed by their own policies.
Children
The app carries age ratings that reflect the content of the works it holds. As described above, it collects no names, email addresses, or anything else that identifies anyone directly, at any age.
This website
Everything above is about the app. This website (yodaka.app) runs Google Analytics 4, so we can see which articles people read.
Browsing the site sends the following to Google.
- The page you viewed, and where you arrived from (a search result, a link elsewhere)
- An approximate location, estimated from your IP address
- Your browser and device type, screen size, and language setting
- An identifier stored in a cookie, so that one visitor is not counted twice
We do not send your name, email address, or anything else that identifies you directly.What we see is the aggregate. Google’s handling of what it collects is governed byGoogle’s privacy policy.
No cookie is set for visitors from the EU, the UK, or Switzerland. What reaches Google from there is an aggregate count carrying no identifier.
Elsewhere, to opt out, disable cookies in your browser or install Google’sopt-out add-on.
The name, email address, and message you send through thecontact form reach us through Resend, an email delivery service. We use them to reply to you and for nothing else.

If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
